Book Review: Mid-Century Mayhem By Bella Street

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow!!! What an adventure, I loved this story.

Wow this book just drew me right into it from the start. I love the fact that the character, Olivia Haugen is an interior designer, so popular right now with all the TV shows, very easy to relate too.

Another thing that got me hooked was the fact that she is in Nashville and ends up in Detroit 1954, what gets me there is that my Dad is from Detroit and I knew what they were talking about. I also love the Mid-Century look as well and also thought it should be black and white. (You will have to read the book)

I thought this book was well written and I enjoyed it throughout. Read pretty fast and can’t wait for #2,

What this book is about:

Book One in the Retro Romance Presents: Time Travel by Design

Modern day Nashville and 1950s Detroit clash worse than an IKEA futon and a plaid Barcalounger when a free-spirited interior designer and a strait-laced automotive engineer find themselves in another time. TOMS-wearing Olivia Haugen and Madras-shirted Kyle Daniels have no idea why they've ended up in 1954 Michigan, but it's probably not because of all the swank mid-century furnishings. Discovering the reason might have something to do with a wily salvage warehouse owner and her not-so-little shop of secrets

Book Review: Dealy Tasting by Jean-Pierre Alaux and Noel Balen

Deadly TastingDeadly Tasting by Jean-Pierre Alaux
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Well first, I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

The book Deadly Tasting by Jean-Pierre Alaux, was interesting, but kind of boring to me.

I found the main character Benjamin to be interesting, and same with his wife putting him on a cabbage soup diet. I also thought the wine information was interesting even though I don't drink wine. But I was lost in the middle of the book, there was a lot of WW11 info and about wine. That was of course intersting.

I don't feel the characters were developed as well as they should have been, I kept losing track of who was who. The book did read fast, and was interesting, and the main story line of a murder, with 12 wine glasses is great, I just think there needed to be more to this plot.

I recommend this book to others who like French wine and history. I thought I would have liked the history part but the presentation of it was boring.
I do love the cover on this book.

What Goodreads says the book is about:
A serial killer is on the loose in Bordeaux. A local chief detective calls wine expert Benjamin Cooker to the crime scene of a brutal murder. The killer has left a strange calling card: twelve wine glasses lined up in a semi-circle with the first one filled with wine. Cooker is charged with the task of identifying the fabulous grand cru and is astonished by what he learns. A second victim is found, with two glasses filled. Is the killer intentionally leaving clues about his victims and his motives? Memories are jogged about the complicated history of Bordeaux during Nazi occupation. It was a dark time: weinfuhrers ruled the wine trade, while collaborationists and paramilitary organizations spread terror throughout the region. In present-day wine country, time is running out. Will Cooker and his young assistant Virgile solve the mystery before all twelve glasses are full

Book Review: Save the Date by Susan Hatler

Save the Date (Better Date than Never, #4)Save the Date by Susan Hatler
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I was so excited when I got this book, I had read the others and hadn’t read this one yet. I then got an offer to listen to this book from Audible and to give an honest review.

It has been years since I listened to an audio book. I felt this book read and I listen to it well, the writer, Susan Hatler, did an awesome job as I love her Better Date than Never series. The narrator did a great job and her voice was perfect and soothing.

I am glad I finally got to read about Kristen, I loved the way this character was so unsure about her life and that even changed careers. Well I didn’t love that idea, but she needed a change and to find out that she is ok . I really loved how she tried to find the right thing to do.
The story is great, worth the read. I give it 5 stars.

What Goodreads says the book is about:

(Better Date than Never series, Book #4)

Kristen knows men hide things. Case in point, her last boyfriend turned out to be married. Just like anyone else, Kristen is devastated. However, since Kristen evaluates people for a living, her ex’s duplicity has her searching for a new career as well as swearing off men.

Touring history museums with her sexy friend Ethan doesn’t count, because he has a girlfriend, and has only shown friendly interest in Kristen. He even helps with her career counseling tasks. Although Kristen has a secret crush on Ethan, spending time with him is safe. Until she discovers he’s actually single. Gasp. And now he’s flirting with her, too.

Suddenly, Ethan is way too dangerous. Not to mention tempting. Sure, he seems like sixty shades of perfect, but how’s a girl with bad judgment supposed to detect what skeletons he has in his closet?

Book Review: Clear The Path to Happiness By Paul Colaianni Fall Giveaway

Clear The Path To Happiness: Powerful, Practical Steps To Become Happier, Feel Better, And Enjoy LivingClear The Path To Happiness: Powerful, Practical Steps To Become Happier, Feel Better, And Enjoy Living by Paul Colaianni
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well I am giving this book 5 stars;

First, I finished it, I am not the best at finishing self-help books
Second, the book is well written and worth it.
Third, I actually learned something useful in this book.

I really think this is a really good Self Help book, I think I will reread it just to make sure I didn't miss anything, but this was really helpful and I am glad I was able to read it.

The biggest thing I took from this book was denial, yes denial, and the author Paul Colaianni talks about this, and it has given me something to think about.  No affirmations but just point blank what to think and how to overcome something. Even thought I cant get over what makes me sad, I can learn to deal with it and try to stop denying myself happiness.

Great book to read, I highly recommend it.

What Goodreads says the books is about:

Pushing emotions down is like trying to stuff an overloaded suitcase. It gets heavier over time, and eventually bursts open at the most inappropriate moment. Happiness can flow naturally when you've resolved your unexpressed emotional pain. When you’re happy, your negative internal dialogue mysteriously disappears, and positive thinking happens on its own.

If you’re already happy, with no negative, lingering thoughts sneaking up on you, then you probably don’t need this book. If however, you want to know how to become happy, then keep reading!

Happiness will reveal itself when we are finally able to live from our core being – who we really are deep, down inside.
This “emotional core” as I call it, is the most sacred, vulnerable place inside of us where we are both the most sensitive, and the most powerful. When we can live authentically from that place, we can create the life we want.

The Overwhelmed Brain Self-Discovery series is designed to help you build (or rebuild) your emotional foundation from the ground up. This book on clearing the path to happiness will guide you in removing the obstacles that are preventing you from experiencing happiness to the fullest. When you are able to clear the path to happiness, you don’t have to seek it, because it will reveal itself from within.

About the Author:

I used to be passive aggressive, people-pleasing, jealous, possessive, uh, what else... quite a few things I guess. Let's just say I've behaved in a lot of ways that were quite dysfunctional.
Finally, after about 35 years of life, I learned to heal and grow from all of it.
I grew up in an alcoholic home, full of fear most of the time never knowing if my bedroom door was going to be kicked in and I would get attacked. Because living in fear was the only reality I knew, I created a lot of unhealthy beliefs about people and the world in general. I took those beliefs into many of my adult relationships, subsequently destroying most of them.
Around 2001 or so, I started my journey of personal growth. My life shifted and I started my healing process. I stepped into my power and learned everything I could about my own behavior and the behavior of others. I received certifications in NLP and hypnosis, and have been studying human interaction and communication ever since.
I created the top-rated personal growth show, The Overwhelmed Brain, in 2013 and am now writing books to help people understand that empowerment does exist and happiness is attainable.
I cover everything from honoring your personal boundaries and strengthening your emotional core, to getting over depression, anxiety and other negative stuff that lingers in the background of your life. My approach is highly practical and applicable, and I typically avoid all the woo-woo stuff like energy and vibrations. I'm not saying that stuff isn't true, because I believe in doing what works, but I prefer more down-to-earth steps that can be applied right away.
I want everyone to be the authentic person they truly want to be inside. Vulnerability is strength, and I believe that everyone is capable of creating the life they want.
